Launching a campaign to improve education

The stakeholders pledged their commitment to top-quality learning

The Department of Education and uThukela District held an event to launch the ‘Quality of Learning and Teaching Campaign’ (QLTC) at the Crown Hotel yesterday (May 31).

Among the invited dignitaries were uThukela Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala, District Director of Education Dr Molefe and MTE Manganyi, as well as the SAPS, Department of Health, School Governing Body (SGB) members and union representatives.

It was said that ‘the focus of the campaign is on all schools, anchored on the provision of clear directives and expectations for quality education at all levels’.

The campaign is designed to focus attention on key activities that lead to high literacy and numeracy development.

uThukela Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala commented that, “An intelligent leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and walks the way.”

He added that principals are placed in a position of authority to make decisive decisions for the success of their schools and they should network with others to change their attitude for the better.

He also gave his commitment to support all schools in need of services in and around uThukela District Municipality. The mayor emphasised that, in return, the schools must meet uThukela halfway by paying their water bills so they can have clean water.
