Seven people attended a week-long Rock Art Custodian Course which was hosted by AMAFA.

This course aims to promote awareness of the significance and value of cultural heritage resources, while ensuring that cultural heritage management is integrated into economic, social and environmental activities in the province.

In Estcourt, various individuals from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, as well as data capturers and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife representatives were in attendance.

– AMAFA senior heritage officer Celeste Rossouw hosted the training.

The course was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Since there is no way to enforce legislation by policing all cultural heritage sites in KwaZulu-Natal, the concept of a rock art custodian has been devised to ensure that all groups taken to rock art sites are informed about the codes of behaviour designed to protect these archaeological sites and their natural surroundings from damage and destruction.
