Brave security guard helps put out fire at pizza shop
Praise has been heaped upon Mandla by Debonairs management and his security company for his prompt action in alerting the control room and preventing more damage.
A local security guard has been praised by shop owners and security companies for raising the alarm after spotting a fire at the Plaza.
Mandla Langa from Tactical Response Security Services was startled to see smoke emanating from the back section of Debonairs Pizza on Monday night.
Mandla was on night duty, patrolling the Old Acre Plaza, when the fire at Debonairs broke out.
After seeing the black smoke, he went closer to see what was burning and found that a huge blaze had erupted in the pizzeria’s kitchen area.
“I am always vigilant while patrolling and saw the smoke billowing out of the building. I knew there must be a fire and went closer to investigate.
“When I had confirmed my suspicions, I alerted my control room,” said Mandla.
He continued that, “It was just after 19:00 and the staff had left the premises, so luckily no one was inside the store.”
The Dundee Fire Department responded after being called by the security company.
According to Mandla, “Firemen were at the scene in no time at all!”
Together with local security companies, the flames were successfully extinguished.
Azmath Khan, one of the owners of Tactical Response Security Services, commented that, “We were the first ones at the scene and called the Fire Department.
“They were there in less than seven minutes to extinguish the blaze. I was really surprised and impressed!”
Khan concluded that they had to break open the entrance to get to the kitchen and stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the store.
Only the kitchen area was damaged, including machinery and electrical appliances.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Praise has been heaped upon Mandla by Debonairs management and his security company for his prompt action in alerting the control room and preventing more damage.
