Deputy Minister hosts Youth Expo to help alleviate unemployment amongst youth
In honour of Social Development Month, various Departments were invited to exhibit and present career development information and opportunities.
Social Development Month was marked today (October 24) when Deputy Minister of Social Development ,Hendrietta Ipeleng Bogopane-Zulu, hosted a Youth Expo at the Newcastle Show grounds.
Every year, Social Development Month is observed to commemorate the country’s commitment to caring for society’s most vulnerable members.
This programme was led by Deputy Minister Bogopane-Zulu as part of her outreach programmes that began last week in the Amajuba district.
In honour of Social Development Month, various Departments were invited to exhibit to young people and present career development information and opportunities.
According to the Newcastle Municipality’s communications department, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light many issues in the country, including poverty, inequality, unemployment, and gender-based violence (GBV). Many people have lost their jobs as a result of the economic downturn, leading to an increase in the number of poor and vulnerable people.
“Young people have been hit the hardest, with the unemployment crisis exacerbated by a lack of access to skills and employment opportunities. The pandemic has magnified the decline in employment opportunities,” said a Communications press release.
