Rix Engineering temporarily closed as Rickesh Manilal recovers post-surgery

This set back has meant that his motor engineering business, Rix Engineering, has been temporarily closed.

Popular, big hearted local biker, Rickesh ‘Rix” Manilal, is recovering from urgent surgery after his intestines ruptured.

This is the second time Rix has had to undergo surgery after he suffered a similar rupture nine years ago.

Rix, who is the President of the Hard Target MCC in Newcastle and well-known nationally in motorcycle circles, fell ill about five weeks and was admitted to Newcastle Private Hospital’s intensive care unit and underwent another unsuccessful surgery.

After ten days, he was transferred to Donald Gordon Hospital at Wits University in Johannesburg.

Another surgery was performed three days late after which he was in ICU for a week and in a general ward for a week thereafter.

Rix was discharged but it was found that his stomach had not ‘sealed’ again and he needs to go back to hospital in about three weeks.

He finds himself mostly bedridden but is determined to be soon up and about.

This set back has meant that his motor engineering business, Rix Engineering, has been temporarily closed. It is a business supported by local riders who know that big-hearted Rix will always help others in need.

Known as a biking legend, the Lockk Riders MCC from KZN Midlands recently organised a fundraiser to assist Rix through his illness.

Rix, who is the son of Sheala and the late Manny Praag, has passed on his apologies to his loyal customers and has promised that he will re-open as soon as he is able.

“Wish him well and pray for his recovery,” his family said.
