Ikusasa Labo needs help after break-in

“There was no way we could have used the centre. They broke the doors, opened up the ceiling, stole beds, and pulled out the stoves and their cables.''

The employees and children who attend Ikusasa Labo Disabled Care Centre had the shock of their lives on Monday last week when they discovered that there had been a break-in.
Arriving at school in the morning, they saw that the doors were wide open and that some of the items inside the centre had been stolen. School principal Mam Thoko Mbatha Buthelezi explained that they had to send the children home due to the fact that almost everything they use on a regular basis had either been stolen or destroyed.

“There was no way we could have used the centre. They broke the doors, opened up the ceiling, stole beds, and pulled out the stoves and their cables. There is no way we can use gas stoves in our centre due to the type of children we cater for. We have opened two cases of break-in and robbery, but we are still waiting for the SAPS to come to the centre.”

Mam Buthelezi says she contacted the Department of Education to come and collect the rest of the items for safekeeping until they re-open. “We have contacted the parents and told them that the children cannot be accommodated at the centre, as the thieves destroyed almost everything and we cannot give them an exact date as to when we will open again, because we also do not know. There is a lot that needs to be fixed.”

She further explained that criminals have broken in before, but this current incident was ‘over-the-top’ as it has forced them to close the school. Ikusasa Labo Disabled Care Centre is now pleading with the community not to forget them, as they serve the children. They are pleading for any assistance so they can re-open and help children living with special needs. The school can be contacted on 072 488 8804.
