Residents reel in shock as community leader sadly passes away
Siyanda will be remembered for his devotion to young children, love of dance, and love of the Sithembile community. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, he was able to change the world despite his disability.

The community of Sithembile was shocked by the sudden death of Siyanda Khumalo on July 1.
Siyanda, the founder of the Siyanda Community Development Centre and Glencoe Dance Club, has been described as a ‘sincere proponent of community development and a follower of Jesus Christ’.
Siyanda will be remembered for his devotion to young children, love of dance, and love of the Sithembile community. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, he was able to change the world despite his disability.
Originally from Madadeni in Newcastle, Siyanda lived his final years in Sithembile, where he founded a place where young people gathered to exhibit their talents.
Glencoe Dance Club was founded at this centre, which saw membership increase over time.
“We have lost such an incredible, talented young man who always came up with innovative ways of getting the youth of Sithembile involved in community activities through dance and talent shows,” said Thandeka Kubeka, a resident in Sithembile.
She added that working with Siyanda was always a breath of fresh air, as he was always full of humour and very humble.
“Siyanda will be missed by us as his pupils; he was very kind and always encouraged us to use what we have in order to acquire what we need. We always looked forward to the dance lessons, as well as entering contests, because he was the biggest cheerleader. We will all sincerely miss him,” said one of the dance students, who wished not to be named.
Members of Siyanda’s club had a talent show to say their final goodbyes during Siyanda’s memorial service, which was held at the Sithembile Hall.
