Dannhauser Angling Club surges ahead in professional league

Dannhauser AC is determined to make a statement by beating their arch-rivals, roping Santosh Baliram of SB Baits fame and renowned SA angler into its contingent.

The Angling Professional League (APL) held its second league at Richgate Park last Sunday.
The current log leaders, Dannhauser Angling Club, extended their lead by amassing 67 points. Breakwaters AC put up a spirited performance to finish second with 57 points, followed by Freshwater Spartans AC on 42 points, Challengers AC with 30 points and Stillwaters AC on 26.

For most clubs, it was a far cry from League 1 at the same venue for the opening fixture, with improved performances.

For the title of ‘Angler of the Day’, it was a toss-up between Tashriq Narotham (NDH) and Ruchir Buduram (BAC), tied on nine points. However, Tashriq had one more fish in his keep net and was declared ‘Angler of the Day’, winning the outright trophy, R200 and the blue cap.
Ruchir Buduram caught the heaviest carp of the day, which tipped the scales at 3.792kg.
Mark Ince of Stillwaters AC leads the overall log table with 13 points; followed by Sikander Amod and Basheer Abdool of Dannhauser AC on 10 points each.
The top anglers in the other club include Ruchir Buduram (BAC) on nine points; Naeem Ismail of Challengers AC on seven; and Sonia du Plooy of Freshwater Spartans AC on eight.
The early title contenders are Ruchir Buduram (BAC – heaviest scaled fish at 3.792kg – L2); Ismail Syed (FSAC – Junior Angler of the Year – one point); Sonia du Plooy (FSAC – eight points); Ronnie Rampersadh (BAC – Senior Angler of the Year – eight points); and Mark Ince (SAC – Angler of the Year – 13 points).
The next round of the league will be held on September 17 at Richgate Park, which makes for an interesting contest as the teams go for glory.
The first registration period of the APL closes on September 18.
