MEC for CoGTA visits town after recent flooding

72 people were displaced as a result of the recent floods

The MEC for Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs, Ms Bongiwe Sithole-Moloi, again visited Ladysmith today (January 10) after the recent flood disaster.

She met with the leadership of uThukela District Municipality (led by Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala) and that of Alfred Duma Local Municipality (led by Mayor Zama Sibisi).

The meeting was held at the uThukela Disaster Management Centre.

At this meeting, both municipalities gave reports on the impact of the disaster, possible causes thereof and also recommendations to prevent a future recurrence of the same tragedy.

The MEC, together with a delegation from both municipalities, had a walkabout at the Indoor Sports Complex, where 72 displaced people are being sheltered.

They then proceeded to the taxi rank in Queen Street, before going to St Chad’s, where a low-lying bridge was swept away in the floods.
