Over 250 residents affected as floods devastate Madadeni, Osizweni, and Blaauwbosch
Thirty-two households have been damaged and 12 totally destroyed in widespread flooding in Madadeni, Osizweni and Blaauwbosch since January 6.
Those affected include 48 men, 65 women, 127 children, 2 people with disabilities and 17 senior citizens.
The Newcastle Disaster Management Office dispatched teams to assist the families and confirmed that there had been no fatalities or injuries.
In a statement, the Newcastle municipality said their Technical Services team has been actively assessing the damage and working around the clock to unblock drains to prevent further flooding.
Accompanied by Mayor, Xolani Dube, the Municipality mobilized resources to households experiencing damage to roofs etc. caused by the floods to ensure that affected residents receive the necessary support and assistance.
“The Newcastle Municipality is committed to ongoing assessments and will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.”
