Community rallies to support Monty Steele in his fight against kidney failure
Newcastle residents have rallied round to give their support to long-standing resident and local hero, Monty Steele, who is battling Stage 6 renal kidney failure.
Monty, age 67, has dedicated over half a century to making life in his hometown better for all who live there.
Whether playing music at weddings and functions or selling cars and working diligently as an assessor, Monty has touched the lives of numerous community members.
His strength and efforts have gained him the respect and love of everyone who knows him.
A self-proclaimed family man, he is described as a gentle and kind soul with a generous and giving heart who spreads joy and happiness to everyone around him.
But now Monty needs the assistance from the community he loves – he was diagnosed on March 28 after his health started to decline alarmingly with him suffering extreme exhaustion, loss of appetite, and severe weight loss.
Monty’s daughter, Samantha Shaw, has described the experience as heartbreaking and overwhelming.
Now, that he faces this difficult challenge, the community is rallying behind him just as he has done for so many others.
For those who would like to contribute to Monty’s medical expenses, donations can be made through the BackaBuddy platform: Monty Steele (Renal Kidney Failure Stage 6)
“It has been an emotional rollercoaster,” she said, “The community’s response, though, has been overwhelming. We are so grateful for everyone’s love, support, and generosity.”
Samantha expressed her gratitude on behalf of the family: “We appreciate every bit of love, support, and generosity shown towards my dad. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”
