Highlanders triumph in Glencoe friendlies despite wet conditions

The Newcastle Boschpick Highlanders braved wet and cold weather conditions on Friday night when they travelled to Glencoe to compete in friendly matches against Sentraal.

Both Highlanders teams came out on top, securing impressive victories with scores of 12-0 and 48-0.

Head coach, Andrè Swanie Swanepoel, praised the team’s performance, stating that despite the miserable weather, the Highlanders were dominant, scoring eight tries in total.

“From the kickoff, it was clear that the Highlanders’ intensity was high, with a lot of pace among the backs,” said Swanepoel. “They dominated the scrums, lineouts, and backs, adapting very well to the conditions.”

While the teams performed excellently, standout players included Daniël Halforthy (2), who played his best game for the club.

He was well supported by Buffalo (3) and Kwanda (1) in the scrums.

Team captain Henk Booysen (4) also contributed strongly.

Dillon de Beer (5) was exceptional in the lineouts, while Siya Mqele (8) and Kheshwa (6) made it tough for Sentraal in the midfield.

Youngster, Tylor Jonk (7), showed great potential for the Highlanders, while Shaka Nkosi (15) and Moyane (11) impressed with their attacking skills.

Minnie (13) dazzled the opposition, leaving them scrambling to defend. Wikus (10) also displayed strong attacking ability throughout the match.

Points scored:

  • Tries: Kheswa: 1, Mnelisi: 2, Daniël: 1, Wikus: 1, Siya: 1, Moyane: 1, Nipho: 1
  • Conversions: Minnie: 3
