Shots were fired during a failed robbery in Aviary Hill before one suspect fled and later turned himself in. Read more here:

A man and his nephew were left shaken after gunmen allegedly opened fire on them in their home in what appears to be an attempted armed robbery on Saturday, July 5.

According to Mornè Potgieter of Ithemba Security, the homeowner was inside the house when he suddenly heard gunshots outside.

Upon investigating, he discovered two armed men firing into his house, seemingly aiming at both him and his nephew.

In self-defence, the homeowner drew his firearm, prompting the intruders to flee the scene.

Potgieter confirmed that the suspects fled the scene after the shots were fired.

One suspect was apprehended shortly afterwards by Ithemba Security and handed over to police. The second suspect managed to evade arrest but later surrendered to authorities.

All relevant emergency services, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), ambulance personnel, CCPA, and private security companies, responded to the scene. Newcastle SAPS are investigating a charge of attempted armed robbery.
