La Gratitude Homes for the Aged suffered extensive damage and residents had to be evacuated when flood waters rushed through the complex during the severe rain and hail storm that hit Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

The frail care facility, administration buildings, and cottages were all affected.

Some residents were temporarily relocated, but many still remain at the facility.
