Hijacked vehicle recovered – suspect arrested

Newcastle police together with private security helped arrest a suspect for allegedly hijacking a vehicle in Allen Street. Read more here:

A swift response from SAPS and private security personnel resulted in the recovery of a vehicle hijacked by armed men in Allen Street on January 8 and one arrest.

Police react quickly

Imraan Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA) said Ithemba Security personnel identified the hijacked Volkswagen Polo shortly after the incident, travelling towards Osizweni.

“Support units were immediately alerted, and the information was shared with SAPS,” he said.

SAPS Newcastle K9 Unit and SAPS Osizweni immediately provided backup which resulted in the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of one suspect.
