Jail time for sharing wife’s images
A Newcastle man has been sentenced to two years behind bars for sharing intimate images of his estranged wife with members of her church.
A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for sharing intimate photos and videos of his estranged wife without her consent.
According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Department, the victim received a message from her estranged husband on April 15, 2025. In the message, he informed her that he intended distributing ‘pornographic’ content she had sent him while they were happily married.
He allegedly went on to share the material with a woman who attended the same church as the victim.
Court finds accused guilty
The accused was formally charged with knowingly distributing private sexual photos and videos. He was found guilty on February 16, 2026, in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to two years in prison.
Arumugam said the investigating officer, Sergeant Mthimkhulu, demonstrated outstanding investigative skills, which were instrumental in bringing the accused to justice.
