Strong winds that swept through Van Reenen’s Pass last night (May 6) are believed to have contributed to a truck overturning on the N3 in Van Reenen’s Pass. Reports indicated that wind speeds at the Van Reenen Windy Corner reached up to 95km/h.
Traffic controlled by police
Following the incident, trucks were forced to move slowly up and down the pass while police monitored and controlled traffic flow to ensure the safety of motorists using the route.
Drivers urged to be careful
Authorities are urging motorists, especially truck drivers, to exercise caution when travelling through the windy area, as strong winds continue to affect driving conditions.
N3 update for this morning
Reports from N3TC this morning (May 7) indicate that high wind speeds exceeding 70km/h are currently being experienced on Van Reenen’s Pass between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.
These conditions may disrupt traffic flow and could result in hazardous driving conditions, damage to property, or fallen debris along the route. Vehicles towing trailers or caravans, as well as trucks with high sides or carrying light loads, are advised to exercise extra caution, particularly when travelling between Ladysmith and Harrismith.
