Rain or shine, rugby supporters show their love of the Springboks

''Super fans withstood the drizzle to witness this historic event.''

Community members gathered at the Cecil Emmet Rugby Field on Saturday in support of the Springboks.
The Springboks, of course, were about to go head-to-head with New Zealand in the 2023 Rugby World Cup final.
The match itself was an absolute nail-biter, with South Africa just managing to win the game with a penalty in the dying minutes. The final score was 12-11 to the Boks; their third match in a row to triumph by a single point!
Residents came out in numbers although it was freezing cold, crossing their fingers for the trophy to come back home – which, of course, it did!
The rugby supporters watched the game on big screens over a braai and drinks in hand.
One of the organisers of the event said, “Congratulations to the Springboks on winning the Web Ellis World Cup. We would like to thank the Vryheid community, patrons and partners for helping to make the Fan-Park experience legendary! Super fans withstood the drizzle to witness this historic event. And that is testament to the power of sports and the unity of supporters. We will continuously strive to curate experiences that carry our signature of growing and evolving.”
