The morning was filled with calming energy, meaningful moments and activities designed to help participants recharge.

Participants enjoyed a variety of activities, including a Tai Chi session, a Yoga class, and delicious tea and snacks while taking time to breathe, unwind and restore their energy.

What is International Yoga Day?

International Yoga Day is observed annually on June 21, aligning with the summer solstice (longest day of the year) in the northern hemisphere. It’s the winter solstice and shortest day here in South Africa.

It was first proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and officially adopted by the United Nations in 2014 to raise global awareness of yoga’s many benefits.

Originating in India more than 5000 years ago, yoga is a holistic discipline that connects the mind, body and spirit. It goes beyond physical exercise, promoting flexibility, strength and posture while reducing stress and fostering inner peace.

Today, International Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide with community events, group classes and messages promoting wellness, unity and balance.
