Municipality denies so called load reduction caused by Eskom debt
"We are sticking to our payment plan with Eskom" says municipality
Load reduction implemented by Eskom that has led to extended black outs is not because the municipality defaulted on its Eskom debt payments. Earlier it was said the municipality owed Eskom around R50 million which resulted in the so called load reduction.
However the municipality has finally released an official statement where it rejects the allegations that surfaced on social platforms and were released as ‘official’.
“Endumeni has a payment plan with Eskom which we are sticking to. The term load reduction is misleading as it really is an extension of load shedding. Senior Management and councillors were in discussion with Eskom this morning where it was said this so called load reduction had been implemented in various provinces and towns and unfortunately Endumeni is one.
“We were told this is because despite load shedding caused by a lack of generation capacity, Eskom is heavily challenged by cable theft, faults and other issues which has led to the sad reality of extended outages.
“We can only apologize to residents on behalf of Eskom and hope the issues are cleared as soon as possible,” the statement concluded.
