Fake matric certificate scam doing the rounds

"It is impossible that someone with a legit profile on Facebook can advertise that he/she is selling matric certificates, because it is a criminal offence to sell or buy a qualification."

Another scam is doing the rounds in Dundee, aiming to lure matrics who failed their exams.
The scam offers matric certificates for sale at R1500. The Facebook post invites Dundee residents to buy ‘an original and legit’ certificate without paying a deposit. The money is to be transferred using a Pep Stores money transfer. The post says the certificate can also be collected at the Pep Stores parcel collection counter. No personal identity action is required to collect the money, making it difficult to identify the person who withdraws the cash.

The post claims that ‘applicants will receive the certificates after two days’. Previously, people who have contacted the number provided on the post were told that he does not sell fake certificates and follows the department’s registration system to help people get a legitimate bar-coded certificate with a serial number

‘.The Department of Education commented that ‘there is nothing like this and the whole thing is a scam and fake’, aimed at fleecing people out of their hard-earned money.

Umzinyathi District SAPSspokesperson Constable SF Nkwanyana said the public should know that ‘these days, scammers/fraudsters are very active, especially through technology’.

“It is impossible that someone with a legit profile on Facebook can advertise that he/she is selling matric certificates, because it is a criminal offence to sell or buy a qualification.
“A Grade 12 certificate can only be obtained through studying at a high or secondary school, or it can be obtained through studying at ‘finishing school’ institutions that are recognised by the Department of Education.”If you find any kind of advertisement like this or you hear of anyone who says he is selling
