Fire drill surprise for shoppers at Dundee Boulevard Centre

The exercise was done to ensure first responders in the town are equipped to deal with emergencies

A fire drill involving the Endumeni Fire Brigade and Dundee SAPS this morning brought the Dundee Boulevard Centre to a standstill.

Surprised shoppers had to leave shops in the centre as the fire personnel and police officers moved in to clear the area.

Some took to social media to express concerns over a possible threat.

However, tenants at the Centre and Phumlani Ntombela, Endumeni’s disaster manager, confirmed that the exercise was a drill to ensure both tenants and emergency personnel are equipped to deal with such a situation, should the need arise.

The Boulevard Centre was swiftly evacuated.

Fire personnel and Dundee SAPS officers arrived at the centre.
