Dundee Round Table rises like a phoenix from the ashes

Round Table is a young man's service organisation dedicated to serving the local community.

A trying year saw membership of Dundee Round Table drop to virtually two.
However, like the phoenix, the service organisation has risen from the ashes, with three young men being inducted last week at the club’s annual general meeting.

Formed in 1962, the club has done sterling work in fostering goodwill, a sense of community spirit and patriotism among young men while also helping the less fortunate with a range of projects ranging from children’s Christmas parties to winter blankets for the homeless, and assistance for the aged.
Tablers from Newcastle, Winterton and Pietermaritzburg attended the meeting, where Chris Purcell was confirmed as incoming chairman.

Outgoing Round Table chairman Dave Pinder congratulates incoming chairman Chris Purcell.

He takes over from Dave Pinder, with the official induction dinner held on Friday evening at Fort Mistake Lodge.
Kevin McNamara, Round Table’s Drakensberg area chairperson, used the annual general meeting to induct the three newcomers: Jan-Frederick van Zyl, Henning Liebenberg and Wessie du Plooy.
The meeting was also supported by a group of ‘veterans’ known as 41’ers.

The 41 club is an association of Round Tablers who have been axed from the Club after turning 40 but will support the service organisation.

A toast to the ladies
Dave Pinder officiated at the ‘axing’ of long-serving Tabler, Charles Wade, who has just turned 40 which is the cut off ‘year’.

These are Table members who, on reaching the age of 40, have been symbolically axed.
However, they continue to support and guide the organisation to ensure that the legacy of service and fellowship continues.

Round Table ladies and Joff…

In his first speech as chairperson, Chris said the drive would be to attract more members and embark on projects that will assist the community.
With a new team in place, it is clear that the enthusiastic members will continue to make Round Table an asset to the community.
