Clean-up crews tackle overgrown Dundee graveyard

When the Courier visited the cemetery on Monday, access was gained through a gate in Colley Street. There was a security guard, but no sign of workers.

The municipality recently carried out much-needed maintenance work at Dundee cemetery. This follows an outcry by those visiting the graves of loved ones, only to find the cemetery overgrown and in a state of disarray.
The grass has been cut and a general clean-up done.
Following the freak December storm and subsequent heavy summer rain, the graveyard had become a jungle, with even the Wall of Remembrance (where the ashes of loved ones are stored) nearly covered by the rampant foliage.

There are also concerns about cattle and goats roaming around on weekends.
Another issue is people drinking alcohol after funerals, evidenced by empty bottles strewn around.
