Dundee Hindu Temple hosts annual Maha Mariamman prayer

The event's highlight will be the main prayer ceremony on July 21, which commences with the abhishekam at 06:00 and concludes with the kanji prayer at 13:00.

Goddess Mariamman, revered as the rain deity and a powerful protector against diseases, holds a special place in the hearts of all devotees.
Known for her benevolence and healing powers, Mariamman is often depicted adorned with red flowers, symbolising her fierce and compassionate nature.

Her worship is deeply rooted in the traditions of South (Mariamman) and North (Shitala) India, where she is venerated for her ability to cure ailments, especially smallpox, and bring about prosperity through abundant rainfall.
The Dundee Hindu Temple warmly invites the community to its annual Maha Mariamman Prayer, a cherished event that celebrates the divine grace and blessings of Goddess Mariamman (Porridge Prayer) from July 19 to 21.
The festivities commence on July 19 at 17:30 with a flag-hoisting ceremony. Thereafter, bhajans will be rendered in praise of Mother Shakti.
Devotees will have the opportunity to participate in the daily abhishekam (ritual bathing of the deity) and seek blessings from the goddess.
All devotees who are carrying garagam are cordially invited to remain after the abhishekam on Saturday, July 20, for the sacred preparation of the offering.

The Mariamman Prayer is rich with symbolic rituals that embody purification, protection and gratitude.
Devotees offer neem leaves, believed to have medicinal properties, as a tribute to the goddess.
The temple committee warmly invites everyone to join in this divine celebration and experience the spiritual fervour that unites our community.

Whether you are a long-time devotee or new to the traditions, the Mariamman Prayer offers a profound opportunity to connect with the divine and seek blessings for health, prosperity and well-being.
Let us unite to honour Goddess Mariamman and celebrate her timeless grace and blessings.
Your presence will make this event even more special and memorable.
