Dannhauser Primary and charity organisations join hands to help the needy
Dannhauser's small yet caring community are certainly showing other towns how it should be done to look after one another.
Dannhauser again showed its community spirit when Mandela Month was marked in the town.
Staff at Dannhauser Primary Full Service School came on board to collect 50 loaves of bread, soup packs and noodles, which were donated to the Helping Hands organisation and the Dannhauser Community Aid & Upliftment Project.
The primary school’s team that co-ordinated the effort included Miss A Mathurapersadh (departmental head – Afrikaans and Maths), Ms GP Mkhize, Ms F Amedjee and the student leadership at the school.
Farzanah Dookie of the Dannhauser Helping Hands & Water Crisis Committee extended her gratitude to the school for such a wonderful donation.
F Desai of the Dannhauser Aid & Upliftment Group also benefited from this charity drive and expressed her gratitude to the staff, learners, and the principal, Ms LB Makhoba.
These donations were in turn handed to the needy in town.
Farzanah said the Helping Hands organisation hopes to soon open a soup kitchen to initially serve food to the needy on Mondays and Fridays.
“A generous donor is preparing a venue for us in Patak Street and a former resident, Mrs Khan, has pledged R1000 towards the project.
“Once we can secure more sponsors, the aim is to operate seven days a week.”
