Over 10 800 suspects nabbed in major KZN police crackdown

Holiday crackdown nets thousands of suspects in KwaZulu-Natal.

KwaZulu-Natal police arrested 10,872 suspects in June in a major month-long crime crackdown, with 3,278 arrests for contact crimes, including 197 for murder and 1,559 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Provincial SAPS spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the FCS Unit also arrested 207 suspects for rape and 19 for other sexual offences, while 1,856 people were arrested on drug-related charges. In addition, 554 arrests were made for driving under the influence, and 869 undocumented persons were detained.

“Visible policing continues in crime hotspot areas, with a strong presence expected throughout the school holidays to ensure public safety as visitors head to KwaZulu-Natal,” Thenjiswa said.
