Gunmen ambush and kill Induna near Dannhauser in suspected hit

Gunmen ambush and kill Emalangeni Induna in a suspected hit along a rural gravel road near Dannhauser.

Police have confirmed the fatal shooting on Saturday afternoon (July 12) of a well-known community leader and member of the Masihambisane Taxi Association in what appears to be a targeted hit near the Anandale area, outside Dannhauser.

The victim, identified as 72-year-old, Siphiwe Ezra Nyembe, served as the Induna of the Emalangeni Tribal Authority. According to police reports, Nyembe was driving along the Jan gravel road when he came under attack from occupants of a black sedan that had been trailing him.

Multiple gunshots were fired, causing his vehicle to veer off the road. He sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and chin and was transported to Nellie’s Clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Crime scene investigators recovered nine cartridge casings from the scene.

Police have opened a murder case and are urging members of the public who may have information to come forward.
