Glencoe police appeal for help to identify young woman

Glencoe police appeal for public help after skeletal remains of a young woman are found near the R602.

Glencoe police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a young woman whose skeletal remains were discovered near the R602.

The remains were found on October 29 by a member of the public in a grassy area next to the R602 main road between Glencoe and Dundee and police have now turned to the media for assistance.

Police seek family of deceased woman

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that the remains belong to a female aged between 18 and 21 years.

According to SAPS spokesperson Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana, police are urgently trying to trace the woman’s relatives.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have information that can help us identify the deceased or locate her family to come forward,” said Nkwanyana.

At the time of the discovery, items of clothing were found with the remains, including a red and white T-shirt and a navy blue jacket. Samples were also taken from the skeleton for further investigation and future reference.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Madondo on 073 705 6281, Glencoe police station on 034 329 0007, or report the matter at their nearest police station. All information will be treated as strictly confidential.
