Police arrest man with unlicensed rifle in Msinga
Police arrested a 53-year-old man after finding an unlicensed rifle and ammunition in Msinga.
A 53-year-old man has been arrested after police recovered an unlicensed hunting rifle and ammunition during an intelligence-driven operation at Enyonini Reserve in the Keats Drift area under the Msinga policing precinct.
Firearm seized during operation
The operation, conducted on 23 July 2026, targeted the illegal possession of firearms. Police searched the identified property and allegedly found the suspect in possession of a .253 hunting rifle with its serial number removed, as well as four rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Msinga Police Station on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Msinga Magistrate’s Court.
The recovered firearm will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether it has been linked to any previous criminal offences.
Police continue crackdown
Umzinyathi District SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana said intelligence-driven operations aimed at removing illegal firearms from communities will continue.
“The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing, and police remain committed to tracing and removing illegal firearms to improve the safety of our communities,” said Nkwanyana.
