Half-built toilets leave Dundee residents in limbo

Residents say the facility has stood unfinished for months.
Residents told the Courier that a block of toilets was constructed ‘many months ago’, but was left without a roof or toilet fittings.
A contractor from Nquthu later arrived to install the roof but, according to residents, subsequently ‘disappeared’.
‘It’s just a white elephant’
FC Bester of the Endumeni Residents Association, who visited the site, said he was dismayed to find toilets and piping lying next to the unfinished structure and exposed to the elements.
He said the equipment was ‘busy getting damaged’ while the ablution block remained a ‘white elephant’.
“I can’t understand the thinking behind this and what they expect people to do when it comes to toilet facilities.
“Already, people are using a communal tap.
“It seems as if their dignity is on the back-burner as far as the powers-that-be are concerned,” said Bester.
The Courier will seek comment from Endumeni Municipality on the project, its current status and why the facilities remain unfinished.
