After a brief warm-up, with temperatures in the greater Endumeni area are expected to climb into the high 20s and possibly around 30°C on Wednesday, conditions are forecast to change dramatically from Thursday.

The cold front is expected to bring rain and a significant drop in daytime temperatures, with Friday shaping up to be particularly cold. Temperatures could struggle to reach the mid-teens, while overnight temperatures will remain in the low teens.

The cold spell is expected to ease somewhat over the weekend, although cloudy conditions and occasional showers could remain before temperatures begin to recover.

The forecast highlights the dramatic change expected over just a few days – from warm spring conditions on Wednesday to cold, wet weather by Friday.

Residents, particularly the elderly, young children and those without adequate heating, are urged to prepare for the colder conditions.

The approaching system is a reminder that despite spring having arrived, cold fronts can still bring winter-like conditions to the interior of KwaZulu-Natal.
