Local law enforcement help recover illegal firearms in Bergville

The taxi was tactically brought to a stop on the R712 towards Qwa Qwa.

10 suspects were arrested on April 14 after they were found in possession of various illegal firearms.

Mornè Potgieter, Ithemba Security’s head of operations, said a tip-off had been received that a taxi travelling from Bergville to Qwa Qwa, transporting 10 occupants and illegal firearms.

“An operational plan was quickly put in place, involving various law enforcement units and the taxi was observed from a distance until all units were in place and ready to take action,” said Potgieter.

The taxi was tactically brought to a stop on the R712 towards Qwa Qwa.

All 10 occupants were arrested and four illegal handguns with 27 rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

  • Ithemba Security Bergville
  • Phuthaditijhaba Flying Squad
  • Phuthaditjhaba Highway Patrol
  • Phuthaditjhaba POP Unit
  • Harrismith Highway Patrol
