Local runner brutally stabbed to death while jogging
The running community is in a state of shock after the incident
According to police, local runner 37-year-old Ogopoleng Modise went for a jog on Saturday evening (July 6) and failed to return home.
Shortly before 21:00, the family became concerned that he had not returned.
Friends and family members spent most of Saturday evening until midnight searching for him.
“We traced the route we thought he would take, but saw nothing,” explains friend Casper Kempen.
The search continued on Sunday morning and his body was found near La Verna Hospital.
He was found stabbed to death on the pathway between the hospital and town.
Police have confirmed that he took the pathway leading down from La Verna Hospital when he was attacked.
Police are investigating a case of murder.
Modise had recently completed the Comrades Marathon and was an avid runner.
