A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ladysmith Regional Court for raping his nine-year-old biological daughter in November 2023.

The court heard testimony that on the day of the heinous crime, the girl came out of the bathroom and was accosted by her father in the bedroom. He raped her and the crime was interrupted when his sister entered the room, noticing that something was wrong. 

The victim’s aunt played a crucial role in bringing the perpetrator to justice, reporting the incident to the police and testifying in court.

The complainant’s grandmother and a doctor who examined the victim also provided evidence, highlighting the severe trauma and physical harm inflicted upon the child.

Justice has been served and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the hefty sentence handed down to the accused.
