Upper Tugela police arrest Bergville stock theft suspect

He is believed to be a kingpin in the livestock theft network.

Upper Tugela police arrested a 32-year-old man on Sunday (September 21), in connection with stock theft and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

This arrest follows an investigation into the theft of 12 cattle in the Moyeni area of Bergville.

A police operation in August saw eight of the cattle being recovered in the Stulwane area. A 25-year-old was arrested and remains in custody.

During the same operation, a 32-year-old man believed to be a key figure in the livestock theft network managed to elude capture.
