Man allegedly kills ex-girlfriend in Wembezi

The incident has triggered anger towards undocumented foreign nationals.

Police have arrested a man accused of attacking and killing his ex-girlfriend in the Emahhashini area of Wembezi on Thursday (January 8).

It is alleged that the suspect, believed to be an undocumented foreign national, refused to accept the end of the relationship. According to reports, this led to a violent confrontation in which the woman lost her life.

The incident has sparked anger in the Wembezi community.

Earlier today  (January 9), residents – along with community leaders including Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Mduduzi Myeza and police officials – visited the bereaved family to convey their condolences, with some people vowing to chase out undocumented immigrants from the area. The community has also called on landlords to ensure that they do not rent accommodation to individuals who are in the country illegally.
