Family feud turns bloody, but detective gets justice

The victim was stabbed 8 times by a family member during a dispute linked to a long-standing family feud.

Detective brings violent attacker to justice

A diligent investigation by Sergeant AN Ntshingila of Elandslaagte Detective Services led to a 20-year prison sentence for a man who brutally stabbed a woman in November 2023.

The victim, a 39-year-old woman from the Endingeni area of Matiwaneskop, was stabbed eight times by a family member during a dispute linked to a long-standing family feud. The suspect accused the victim of orchestrating the death of his mother. The woman sustained serious injuries and had to be hospitalised.

Investigation leads to arrest

After police responded to the incident and opened a case docket, the matter was allocated to Sergeant Ntshingila for investigation. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was seized at the scene.

The following morning, the suspect, Samukelo Madonsela (25), was arrested. At the time of his arrest, police found him in possession of a knife and a bush knife, resulting in an additional charge of possession of a dangerous weapon.

Court sentences the accused

Madonsela appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court, where bail was opposed and he remained in custody.

The matter was finalised in the Ladysmith Regional Court last week, where Madonsela was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
