Helpmekaar Road shooting claims 2 lives

Police are investigating two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Detectives from the uThukela District Task Team are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred along the Helpmekaar Road on Saturday evening (March 7).

Police confirm the shooting

According to police, two men were shot and killed while travelling towards the Ekuvukeni area. A third person sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escape before being taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan confirmed that the authorities have opened two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder following the incident.

Victims identified as police investigation continues

The victims have been identified as Lindakuhle Mkhwanazi (31) and Mndeni Vincent Nxumalo (43).

The motive behind the shooting has not yet been confirmed.

“Two men aged 31 and 43 were shot and killed in the Ekuvukeni area on Saturday evening. It is alleged that they were travelling towards Ekuvukeni along Helpmekaar Road when the shooting occurred. A third person sustained gunshot wounds and was hospitalised,” concluded Khan.
