Murder case postponed pending outcome of defence appeal

Bail has been extended pending the next court appearance.

Martin Wessels appeared in court again today (June 23) in connection with the fatal shooting of Anton Lombard in April 2025.

The incident occurred at the Hauser Park Sports Bar, also known as The Shute, in the Egerton area.

Today’s appearance

During the brief court appearance, it was heard that the outcome of the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) decision is still outstanding. It is understood that the DPP has been asked by the defence whether their client should indeed be facing murder charges or whether the case should have been ruled one of self defence.

Court postpones case

As a result, the matter was postponed to Thursday, July 23.

Wessels’ bail was extended pending his next court appearance.
