Transport MEC introduces contractor for Bergville road

The total estimated cost of the project is R276 million, with more than 70 employment opportunities to be created

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Sipho Hlomuka officially announced the contractor for the re-sealing of Main Road P30 in Bergville yesterday (May 22).

Main Road P30 connects Ladysmith and Bergville, located in Okhahlamba Local Municipality, under uThukela District Municipality. The project entails the repair of base and surface defects, and the re-sealing of the entire road surface using a double seal.

This section of roadway is approximately 34.4km long, located between the N3 (Ladysmith/Bergville off-ramp) and P30/P340 intersection (Bergville town).

Emerging local contractors are also set to benefit from this multi-million rand project.

MEC Hlomuka then proceeded to the Hambrook Community Hall in Ward 11, where he engaged the local community. Some locals were employed on the spot to be part of the general labourers for the duration of the project. Hlomuka was joined by Okhahlamba Local Municipality Mayor V Mlotshwa, Deputy Mayor N Tshabalala, Speaker Z Khumalo, local ward councillors and senior officials.
