Dead man found in drain pipe identified by family members

Positive identification was made when his family recognised tattoos on both his arms, and a scar from an operation.

The dead man who was found inside a concrete drain pipe near the Helpmekaar-Greytown bridge has been identified as Ralph Russel (34).
Positive identification was made when his family recognised tattoos on both his arms, and a scar from an operation.
Detective van Hysteen confirmed that the deceased lived in the Forestdale area.
The body was found by a passerby who was alerted by a ‘pungent smell’ while walking towards the bridge.
The deceased was partially decomposed, as the head and torso (from the stomach upwards) were inside the drain pipe.
