‘365 days’ by Halalisani Shoba
Soon our government will be busy singing with the same tune, the importance of "16 days of Activism for no violence against women and children".

We are left with only 46 days before we bid farewell to the year 2022. I guess we all had our ups and downs, and that’s fine. At least it seems like for the first time since 2019, we will end the year peacefully, thanks to whatever happened to covid 19. What a ‘pandemic’ that was! Talking about pandemics, how I wish the issue of Gender Based Violence, can be given much needed attention, because the scourge of the abuse need to be dealt with decisively. As we speak, the issue of Gender Based Violence is perpetual. It doesn’t seem like we will reach the end of the tunnel anytime soon, while some of us we are eager to see the light.
I was so pleased to note, as one of the most respected leader, led a march against Gender Based Violence recently, although it is disappointing to learn as stats shows that our province of KZN is ‘among provinces with high rate of Gender Based Violence’. The abuse and killing of children and women is INSANE in our province. Soon our government will be busy singing with the same tune, the importance of “16 days of Activism for no violence against women and children”; well there’s nothing wrong with this United Nations campaign. Somehow I feel like we need to scrap this ‘16 days’ notion and replace it with the campaign that will be most suitable every day, to every ordinary South African citizen. Not just any campaign, but the campaign that will produce fruitful results. This is not the time nor stage for glitz and glam. We have a serious problem in our hands.
STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV. STOP GBV.
When it comes to violence against women and children, silence is not golden. We need to be vocal. We need to fight against this pandemic of Gender Based Violence, as it continues to cause great suffering in our province of KZN and South Africa at large.
