‘State of no action’ by Halalisani Shoba

The State of the nation address has totally lost its significance.

I prefer to listen to the same fairy-tale stories over and over again because at least there’s nothing to expect from fairy-tale stories. Fairy-tales remain just like that, whether you believe in them or not. As much as I prefer to listen to fairy-tales but last week Thursday, I concluded that some fairy-tales are no longer worth my time. Thanks to load shedding I ended up missing such fairy-tale. The State of the nation address has totally lost its significance. Some things that were promised by the president of the Republic during his first address in his office term until today are yet to be delivered.
Ramaphosa promised to create job opportunities, that’s just to highlight what I think is the most important thing, he should have focused on that but he dismally failed millions of young people in South Africa.

It will take time and a lot to witness better South Africa, because as it stands we are on our own. We are led by capitalists who have no business in serving the interests of ordinary citizens. We will continue to suffer in darkness while taps run dry. In no time they will be campaigning for our votes, pity ‘loyal voters’ will cast their votes not for change but to keep their masters in power. We’ve got no one to blame but ourselves. Unless we decide that, enough is enough.
Again it is that period of the year where most institution of higher learning will welcome back their students to resume with their studies. After the hassle of registration and NSFAS issues that are forever present, it was so disappointing to learn about the incident where a TUT female student was brutally killed. It is said, a third year met her untimely death in what appears to be an incident of Gender-Based-Violence (GBV) . My question is, until when? I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of writing about and against GBV. The senseless killings of women and children must come to an end. As individuals, society and government; we all need to play a role in making sure that we end GBV.
