Slow-moving traffic due to tree-felling

Motorists should proceed with caution

Public Safety officials are directing traffic in Poort Road today (March 24). This is because a crane is blocking the road due to a huge tree being chopped down.

The crane was hired from Pietermaritzburg by a local businessman, who also hired a local crew of ‘woodcutters’ to do the felling of the enormous tree.

According to officials, this will take time and motorists are urged to exercise caution. Traffic is moving slowly around the crane.

Speaking to a staff member of the business, he said they’re chopping down the tree so they can develop and rehabilitate the area. This comes after many people have complained about the trees in Poort Road. Nearby residents say this is sure to reduce the crime rate in the area, as it is believed that criminals hide in the ‘overgrown gully’ after committing robberies.
