CRIME: 500kg of stolen copper cabling seized by police after tip-off

An Eskom official confirmed that the stolen copper belonged to the power utility.

A Zimbabwean national was arrested after he was caught transporting 500kg of stolen copper cabling from Eskom.
Sergeants Kalichara and Mabilisa of Dundee SAPS received a tip-off that a truck transporting copper was travelling on the R33 Greytown/Dundee road last Wednesday.
With the assistance of security officials, they pulled over the vehicle in Grey Street.
A search of the truck revealed a stack of copper said to be worth about R100,000.
An Eskom official confirmed that the stolen copper belonged to the power utility.
A suspect was arrested and detained, and police investigations are continuing.

A total of 500 kgs of copper was seized.
