Police prove that it’s their ‘Destiny’ to make Dundee and Glencoe crime-free
The SAPS firmly rejects all forms of corruption, gender-based-violence, interpersonal violence, and generalised criminal activity.
Major General Francis Slambert (Umzinyathi district commissioner) has made it clear that ‘police will not rest until Dundee and Glencoe are crime-free zones’.
This is in response to the highly successful ‘high density’ operation carried out in Dundee and Glencoe that focused primarily on drugs, unlicensed firearms, liquor outlet compliance, stop and search, dangerous weapons, stock theft, suspect raids and roadblocks – and was led by the district commissioner herself.
To make this operation (dubbed ‘Destiny’) successful, it required the participation of all organisational divisions and units that have expertise in various areas.
“During these operations, we were able to detain eight suspects for dagga possession, four suspects for drug possession, three suspects for dealing in and selling alcohol without a licence, one suspect for possessing a firearm without a licence, one suspect for possessing ammunition, one suspect for possessing suspected stolen property (copper), and 11 knifing suspects.
“Eight dangerous weapons were seized,” explained communications officer Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana.
He concluded by saying that the SAPS firmly rejects all forms of corruption, gender-based-violence, interpersonal violence, and generalised criminal activity.
“Our main responsibilities are to uphold the law and prosecute offenders.”
