Disability Forum visits old age home

The elderly residents were excited to have guests over for tea

Juana Maria Frail Aged Home invited members of the Ward 13 Disability Forum for a tour and tea recently.

Three members of the forum paid a visit to the Home, namely Mr HF Khan, Miss Y Mathir and Mr MH Osman.

Juana Maria Old Age Home is a non-profit organisation that cares for the elderly. Ms Elsje Watkins (manager) provided the guests with valuable information on how the Home is managed. Thereafter, they met many of the residents, who were delighted to converse with them.

“Elderly and disabled people play an important role in our community, and thrive on the support of those who are more able-bodied. Mrs Watkins informed us about the need to open a dementia facility at the old age home, which they are working towards in the future. However, they require the support of the Ladysmith community. Good conversation and laughter was shared over tea and tasty treats in the dining hall,” said Mr HF Khan.

After tea, the three guests and Mrs Watkins proceeded to the other sections of the Home.

Mrs Watkins commented that she and the residents enjoyed the company, and are looking forward to another visit in the future.
