Local municipality hosts Spelling Bee competition

The top three schools walked away with printers and trophies

Yesterday (September 6), Alfred Duma Local Municipality successfully hosted its annual Spelling Bee initiative through its Library Section.

48 spellers from 36 schools within the municipal jurisdiction took part.

The winner was Ntwenhle Khulu from Dumangobuhle Primary School, in second position was Amahle Mathe from Mkhulunyelwa Primary School and third was Diyan Ramsunder from Egerton Primary School.

The challenge was honoured by the attendance of Social & Community Services Portfolio chairperson and Exco member Cllr Thobani Dlamini, who shared welcoming remarks. Also in attendance were principals and teachers.

The learners were encouraged to put more effort into their schoolwork and were told that the municipality has libraries that are accessible to them. The learners were urged to make use of these facilities, where they can access books and gain more knowledge to increase their literary skills.

Among the guests were representatives from the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture and Department of Education, who shared words of support to the teachers and spellers alike.

Cllr Dlamini handed over prizes to all 48 participants. They also received certificates and medals.
