Expect low pressure as water-shedding hits
Residents living in the affected areas are advised to store water

uThukela say that water-shedding will be implemented with immediate effect.
The district municipality explains that they have reached the time of year when they have had no rain in the catchment area, resulting in the Klip River water source drying up.
“We pump 40% of our daily raw water supply from the Klip River to the Ladysmith water purification works. We pump the remaining 60% from Spioenkop Dam,” say uThukela.
“Unfortunately, we are also experiencing load-shedding at Spioenkop, resulting in reduced pumping times and subsequent reduced water volumes from the Spioenkop supply as well. We have been in contact with Eskom to exempt us from load-shedding at Spioenkop and only get short exemptions upon request,” is the explanation from the district.
Therefore, water-shedding is here again and the community can expect low water pressure or no water at all between 06:00 and 18:00 until such time as enough rain is received in the catchment areas to replenish the Klip River.
uThukela add that water-shedding is necessary for them to fill the reservoirs during the night in order to supply domestic and industrial areas during the day.
Residents are thus urged to use water sparingly; store water if possible; and refrain from filling pools, watering gardens and washing cars during this period.
